Flowing Waters Holistic Services

Kiara Gonzalez

I'm a Certified Holistic Doula and Brooklyn native supporting families across New York City through the many seasons of growing, birthing, and welcoming new life. As a traditional birth worker, I believe birth is a natural physiologic process the body is designed to navigate, while also being a deeply transformative experience that benefits from preparation, presence, and skilled guidance.

As a mother of four and a doula with nearly a decade of experience walking alongside families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, I know firsthand the importance of feeling informed, supported, and empowered throughout the transition to parenthood. My work centers individualized care that honors matrescence as a sacred rite of passage. I believe every birthing person deserves informed choice, bodily autonomy, compassionate care, and the opportunity to shape their own birth journey.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, with roots tracing back to Ayiti-Kiskeya-Bohio, known today as the Dominican Republic. I believe my calling to birthwork is ancestral. When I work with a family, I often feel that the unborn baby is calling in their birth team, and I am deeply honored each time I get to answer that call.

How’d I get here?

It was during the 80’s when my parents met and the sparks flew…. just kidding! I’ve always been a bit of an oddball, a bit of a nerd, very curious, and absolutely fascinated by nature. I guess those are the ingredients needed to enter this work.

In 2008, I became a mother at the very tender age of 18. Through the birth of my eldest child, Sage, I witnessed the innate intelligence and strength of my birthing body in a way that changed me forever. That experience marked the beginning of my own path of self-healing and planted the earliest seeds of the work I would eventually grow into.

In 2012, I launched my first business offering Reiki, Thai Yoga Bodywork, and holistic counseling in New York City’s Flatiron District, bringing the healing practices I had begun cultivating into service for others. Over time, my work continued to deepen through motherhood, healing, and community care.

It wasn’t until 2016, while pregnant with my son, that I became fully aware of the disparities within the medical industrial complex, and my fire for birthwork was truly ignited. In 2018, I completed my doula training and began pursuing birthwork full time after joining the New York City Doula Collective. Since 2020,I have served on the board of the Collective, and I currently hold the role of Co-Director.

Prior to becoming a doula, I worked extensively with children through my work with the Department of Education. Using emotional intelligence, observation, and trauma-informed support, I assisted children ages 4 to 18 in adapting to their school environments through crisis intervention, support for children with disabilities, and language interpretation for students with limited English proficiency. I also cared for newborns and toddlers of teenage parents attending high school, which further deepened my understanding of caregiving, family support, and community care.

Today I am proud to serve birthing families throughout Brooklyn and across New York City.
