About Me
Hola,
My name is Kiara Gonzalez. I’m excited at the possibility of supporting your family along your birthing process. As a traditional full circle birth companion, I believe that birth is both a natural physiologic process that the body innately knows how to navigate and something that one can and should prepare for.
Through navigating my own birthing experiences, I understand the importance of feeling uplifted, empowered, and being well informed during the transition into parenthood. As a Certified Holistic Doula I aim to provide a safe space for birthing families through individualized care that centers respect of personal choices, compassion, and honors pregnancy, birth & postpartum as a sacred time of initiation. I believe that every birthing person should have access to their desired birth, access to informed birth choices, and the freedom of bodily autonomy.
I am a first generation Brooklyn native— born and raised. My immediate family’s roots come from the island of Ayiti-Kiskeya-Bohio (modern day Dominican Republic) and I believe that my calling to birthwork is ancestral. I believe that when I work with a family, that unborn baby is calling on their birth team and I am deeply grateful and honored to be able to say yes to that request.
How’d I get here?
It was during the 80’s when my parents met and the sparks flew…. just kidding! I’ve always been a bit of an oddball, a bit of a nerd, very curious, and absolutely fascinated by nature. I guess those are the ingredients needed to enter this work.
In 2008, I was initiated into motherhood at the very tender age of 18. I witnessed the innate wisdom of my birthing body during the transformative birth of my eldest child, Sage. Her birth was a catalyst to my journey of self healing, which equipped me with tools to help others on their own journey. So in 2012 I launched my first business, Reiki Synchronicity where I provided reiki treatments, Thai Yoga Bodywork, and holistic counseling in New York’s Flatiron district.
It wasn’t until 2016 while pregnant with my son that I became fully aware of the disparities in the medical industrial complex and my fire for birthwork was sparked. In 2018 I finally took a doula training and pursued birthwork full time after joining the New York City Doula Collective. I have been serving on the board of the Collective as Membership Director since 2020.
Prior to becoming a doula, I worked extensively with children through my work with the Department of Education. Using emotional intelligence and observation, I assisted children aged 4 through 18 with adapting to their school environments by providing crisis intervention, assisting children with disabilities, serving as a translator for children with minimal English language, and worked as a caretaker for newborns and toddlers of teenage parents attending high-school.
"Thank you so much for everything you did for me the day of the birth and even after, I appreciate you so much!! From the bottom of my heart I’m glad I found you, you made this process so easy and welcoming."
